The Bhutan Board for Certified Counselors (BBCC) requires that certified counselors engage in continuing education to update their counseling knowledge. This aligns with international standards regarding the appropriate maintenance of certification. Continuing education can encompass knowledge of client assessment, counseling skills, and special areas of knowledge, including mental health, addiction treatment, special needs children, and other topics related to mental health counseling.

Continuing education will be assessed as part of the recertification process every three years.

Certified counselors wishing to upgrade to an advanced level during the recertification process must acquire and document 100 continuing education clock hours on BBCC-approved topics.

For more information about the requirements for continuing education, please see BBCC’s Continuing Education Policy.
