Certification Steps
National Certified Counselor - Bhutan is the highest level of professional acknowledgement for counselors available in the Kingdom of Bhutan. More information about certification is available in the `Guidelines for the National Certification of Counseling Professionals in Bhutan.
Applicants are required to complete the Bhutan Board for Certified Counselors Application Form before submitting it to the BBCC Director for consideration by the board.
New applicants are asked to familiarize themselves with the eligibility criteria for the requested certification level available in the Guidelines and to submit evidence to support their application. If the applicant does not meet all criteria or submit requisite evidence, application approval may be postponed, pending completion of requirements.
The following should be submitted along with the application:
- latest security clearance
- photocopies of academic transcripts (applicants will be required to produce original documents if and when asked for by the board)
- references from supervisors or professional colleagues
- professional development certificates and/or documents that specify professional experience/education
- current curriculum vitae
National Certification Exam
The national certification exam ensures a consistent professional standard of counselors nationally. Passing the exam is required in order to gain certification with the BBCC. The examination consists of both written and interview components.
The exam will assess eight core competencies:
- Knowledge of the Discipline
- Ethical, Legal, and Professional Matters
- Assessment and Measurement
- Intervention Strategies
- Research and Evaluation
- Communication and Interpersonal Relationships
- Working With People From Diverse Groups
- Practice Across the Life Span
